My Thyroid Healing Journey

When I was diagnosed as borderline Hashimoto’s, I was offered a prescription and told to “wait and see.” But I knew there had to be more to the story. What many aren’t told is that once you begin thyroid medication, it’s often a lifelong commitment. I didn’t want to manage symptoms—I tried to understand why this was happening and address the root cause.

As I began peeling back the layers, I discovered a hidden source of inflammation: an infected root canal. I had likely been living with it for over 10 years. Dental infections can quietly burden the immune system and trigger systemic inflammation, especially in those with autoimmune tendencies. Root canals can become breeding grounds for chronic infection if improperly sealed or harboring bacteria. These toxins can leak into the bloodstream and keep the body in a low-grade fight-or-flight state, affecting everything from gut health to thyroid function.

I decided to address it head-on with a biological dentist, which significantly reduced my body’s inflammatory load.

The Steps I Took

Testing:

Another major piece of my healing was doing the right testing. I started with a comprehensive thyroid panel, including: TSH, Total T4, Total T3, Free T4, Free T3, Reverse T3, Thyroid antibodies (TPO and TgAb)

In addition, I ran functional labs to get a deeper look at root causes, including:

  • Gut testing (to identify dysbiosis, pathogens, leaky gut)

  • Toxic burden (heavy metals, mold exposure)

  • Hormone panels (DUTCH)

These labs helped guide my protocol and showed me where my body needed support.

Nervous System Regulation

Breathwork, somatic practices, meditation, and vagus nerve activation. I also worked through stored emotional patterns and past trauma. Want to understand the science behind the thyroid–nervous system connection? Read now

Gut Healing

I used food-based strategies, herbal support, and targeted nutrients to address dysbiosis and rebuild resilience.

Eating Enough and Building Strength

I focused on whole foods, plenty of protein, and healthy carbs, and removed gluten completely to reduce inflammation. I also focused on lifting weights, building muscle, and getting strong.

Hormonal Support

I supported adrenal health, liver detoxification, blood sugar regulation, and practiced cycle syncing to honor hormonal shifts.

Each of these steps brought me closer to balance. It wasn’t about perfection but about consistently showing up for my body.

Healing is rarely about one supplement or a quick fix. For me, a collection of aligned choices created a lasting shift.
